The aging process is universal, of course, but the appearance of aging is not the same for all of us. How we look is affected by heredity, combined exposure to the elements, diet, stress, smoking and alcohol, to name a few. Combinations of these affects our skin to varying degrees.

Not all people are ready to surrender to the ravages of time if the inner self isn’t ready. Given the choice, most of use would prefer to look as young as we feel. In most cases, Dr. Berkowitz has the experience and skills to improve your appearance, rejuvenate your features, refresh your attitude and reveal your
“joie de vivre.”

Facelift
Rhytidectomy

A rhytidectomy is performed to tighten sagging skin on the face and neck and give you a more youthful appearance. Your bone structure, skin texture and heredity all factor into how many years one can “take back,” and to some extent, how long it will last. As with many of the aesthetic surgery procedures, many technical advances have been made recently. In the Medical Arts Surgery Suite, one can find the most advanced examples of this technology.

Many of Dr. Berkowitz’s rhytidectomy patients are candidates for an endoscopic procedure or other limited-incision technique which is far less invasive. Please ask about the ways in which this procedure can be made the most comfortable for you. Doctor Berkowitz has over a decade of experience in advancing the challenging lifting of the mid face.

Blepharoplasty
Eyelid surgery

Whereas crow’s feet can sometimes give the eyes a worldly look, bags under the eyes and droopy eyelids or brows can give an exhausted or sad appearance. The face can be brightened and restored to a more youthful appearance with blepharoplasty. Traditionally done through an incision under the lashes to remove skin and fat, Doctor Berkowitz takes a more logical approach—replacing the protruding fat from the orbit and grafting more fat around the eyes when indicated. The excess skin is tightened overall by the use of the erbium laser or removal of a pinch of skin, if necessary.

Forehead or Brow Lift

A side effect of a lifetime of animated facial expressions (in combination with other effects) is that, over time, loss of tone can occur along with lines, wrinkles of the forehead skin or frown lines between the eyebrows. The forehead lift is intended to correct this and rejuvenate the upper face. This surgery is often performed in conjunction with other facial plastic surgery procedures using an endoscopic technique to protect against hair loss or scars that may show when hair is short or wet.

Rhinoplasty
Surgery of the nose

Doctor Berkowitz has helped the appearance and self-esteem of literally thousands of patients by altering the shape or size of their noses. Most patients make the change primarily for cosmetic reasons, although careful attention to the breathing passages should also leave the patient with a functional airway by treating the septum and turbinates when required. Rhinoplasty is an architectural endeavor whereby the underlying bone and cartilage is reshaped to reflect a more pleasing, proportionate nose on the exterior. The procedure is recognized by most plastic surgeons as one of the greatest technical challenges we undertake and the most important to improve a patient’s self-esteem.

Genioplasty or Mentoplasty
Surgery of the Chin

A receding chin is one way the face can appear out of balance. This feature can be strengthened with aesthetic surgery, without changing the bite of jaw function. When possible, this is accomplished by advancing the patient’s chin forward, but occasionally will be done with implants if necessary.

Cheek implants

The appearance of plump cheeks is highly desired and can be attained through a variety of ways either involving the replacement of soft tissues over the facial bones or, in some cases, using implants.

Otoplasty
Surgery of the Ears

If your ears protrude more than you like, an otoplastic procedure will balance and harmonize your overall look. While frequently done in childhood, adults can also benefit from a reshaping of the delicate ear cartilage through an incision hidden in the fold behind the ear. Face
